PTFE gaskets are one of the most suitable types of gaskets for a variety of sealing applications and are mostly based on virgin PTFE, PTFE compounds, filled PTFE or expanded PTFE. It is a fluoropolymere, which features an outstanding chemical resistivity to almost all chemicals, good thermal insulation properties, and useful mechanical and processing characteristics.
They can be mostly used in valve seats, bearings, requested to resin sliding and chemicals, elastic bands for an-lubricated compressors, O-rings where elastomers cannot withstand
PTFE provides excellent thermal insulation and is the most chemically resistant plastic known. It is unaffected by most corrosive liquids, vapors and gases, and conforms to both FDA and AMS specifications. PTFE will insulate to 500 volts per mil and does not melt. Because of these properties, PTFE gaskets, washers and seals are used in the following industries:
An extended range of improved mechanical and processing properties can be additionally reached by a combination of virgin PTFE and different fillers.
Filled Materials: Graphite, Fiber glass, Carbon Fiber, Bronze
Virgin PTFE, PTFE compounds and expanded PTFE offer a wide range of compounded products with good mechanical properties, electrical properties, thermal properties, chemical resistance, low friction coefficient and good resistance to wear.
Download PDFThe sealing insert is made of corrugated stainless steel, soft gasketing material or rubber. This insert is coated with PTFE and open on one side, usually on the outside. Thanks to the high chemical stability, good mechanical properties and permanent resistance in the atmosphere (humidity, gases, temperature changes) they are suitable for all types of gaskets and different media, mostly for aggressive chemicals.
Thanks to the high stability of C-F bond virgin PTFE, which is used for the envelope, exhibits extraordinary chemical resistance. Combinations of two or more insert materials allow a large number of different applications.
Download PDFExpanded PTFE gasketing sheet is made of 100% P.T.F.E. by a special process that produces a uniform and highly fibrous multidirectional microstructure. These create a soft and pliable sealing material, yet a very reliable gasket that has excellent compressive resistance, negligible creep and cold flow. It can seal uneven and damaged flange surfaces. A special manufacturing process provides the material with special chemical and physical properties.
